Striplight Furies was written whilst working in a pub, and witnessing a procession of brawls, lobbed pint pots, head butts, and death threats over a mental couple of months. This song is for anyone who has been driven to near-insanity by sleeplessness and constant drinking.
lyrics
You were peripheral,
Dared not be more or less,
To lose the chance of,
The scalp around your neck,
To lose the sense of,
What would have been had it been you,
If your hands were his old hands,
Could you remake the city anew?
And rearrange the brickwork,
Illumed by striplit stars,
That shine through all your self-deception,
Too weak by half for waning hearts,
I see what you are,
You’re the sum of all your scars,
Reins on the bull,
You’ve nothing to lose,
Thrown in the dirt,
If that is what you choose,
Cortisol kisses,
Won’t bring you to health,
You cannot fix,
What’s dead in yourself,
Well can you burn through,
On bitterness alone,
Immunise you to the violence,
Of the silence waits for you at home,
You taught yourself the hard way,
The brick is more than bone,
And sleeplessness is more,
Than all the medicine you own,
I see what you are,
You’re the sum of all your scars,
